I am a Romanian creative writer and entrepreneur, passionate about everything that sparks my interest.
Firstly, thank you for visiting!
If you are wondering who is behind the keyboard and why this website, then this section is for you. Please bear with me as I present myself, and this project.
My name is Maria Daniela Necșulescu, and I was born on a Thursday in September 1992, in the city of Mangalia, Romania.
I created the “Mardie” persona in 2009, during my high-school exchange year in Germany as a way of self-discovery. It was during this time that I became aware of the Eastern European identity.
Later on, it stayed with me during my studies in The Netherlands and Belgium, helping me navigate through the particularities of the Western world. After a while, I returned home and tried to fit back into my old place, only that I could not find it any more.
So I started a process of research and discovery, and I tried to understand the place I come from and who I am. On my way, I discovered some of my old stories and they inspired me to write new ones. Together with other ideas and never-ending questions and quests, I decided to create this platform as a voice for Mardie and other women.
My purpose is to research and present Eastern European history, culture, society, stereotypes, and to discover and reveal the colourful portraits of the Eastern European Women. Here you will explore a collection of anecdotes, essays, stories, thoughts, curiosities, and more.
